Sum up about the semester.

The course of English 590 is going to end next week. I had many feelings when I looked back for the whole semester.

I like the organization of the class. Every one project includes diverse types of the assignment. I leant the knowledge about a topic from many aspects. It is good for me to memorize and understand the field. The project 6, which is V-Essay, is my favorite part. It is about how to do business with Chinese company. We have to research on the culture behind the negotiation. I have been interest in the diversity of the great culture. Thus, I enjoyed myself during the procedure of the project. The project 2 is my least favorite project. It is important and necessary because it benefits my career in the future. However, it gave me too much work to do. I spent several days to work on the project without doing anything else.

In conclusion, this course cost my plenty of time whereas I learnt a lot and improved my English during the course.

Different writing way

Before I get my point, I want to illustrate some details about the history of Chinese Language. I am interest in Ancient Chinese called Classical Chinese which is different from modern Chinese with the terms of Vernacular Chinese. Classical Chinese has extraordinary difference from Western Language including English. But modern Chinese have more similarities and features with English, even if the differences still existed. Accordingly, modern Chinese seems like a mixture of Classical Chinese and Western language. It has less difference from English. The Chinese we talk about and we wrote today is modern Chinese.

I think writing in Chinese is more colorful than English. I have much more ideas and imagination when I was writing in Chinese. Chinese is an emotional and abstract language. It is approximately the most abstract language in the world. It means we do not write or say something specifically and give many details. It typically stands for Chinese culture. It is good for literature. But in the academic field or official negotiation, Chinese is not accurate and specific enough for people to understand in particular non-Chinese. English is a more accurate and logical language. It is good for expressing something clearly. And it is also good for business and academic research.

Accordingly it is difficult for us to change to a logic language from an abstract language. Even I master in the English grammar and vocabulary. I always write English article with Chinese way at first. My writing teachers always told me to be more specific and clearly in the writing but I always forgot it. Cultural and educated Chinese would like to write something not completely clear and another educated Chinese are able to understand. So I cannot help using this unclear way in writing sometimes. This is the most difficult point for me in the English writing regardless of grammar or vocabulary. But some pictures and video is helpful for me to express my idea in English.
